About the Role:
We are looking for a Lead Jira Engineer with deep expertise in the Atlassian ecosystem (Jira, Confluence) and a passion for enterprise application quality. In this role, you will serve as a full stack engineer designing, engineering, and administering our Atlassian infrastructure, designing and implementing robust workflows, integrations, and automation strategies that support enterprise-level reporting, billing, planning, and analytics. You will report to the Sr. Engineering Manager.
Work Schedule and On-Call Requirements:
This role requires alignment with U.S. business hours - Eastern Time. As a contingency plan, we can target a schedule of 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM local Barcelona time with on-call as required. Candidates should be prepared to adjust schedules to accommodate U.S. time zones as closely as feasible. Additionally, the position includes on-call responsibilities, requiring availability to address critical issues outside standard hours to ensure seamless operational support.
You Will:
- Be a lead developer and administrator for Atlassian
- Design and implement in Atlassian - workflows, permissions, dashboards, automations, data elements from several Enterprise sources like from SalesForce; SAP S/4 Hana and native billing application(s).
- Develop scripts using Groovy, ScriptRunner, or REST APIs to automate tasks and integrate Jira with external systems.
- Implement data validation, cleansing, and transformation processes to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and compliance of enterprise application lifecycle management and reporting.
- Enable connectivities between Atlassian and SAP products and other Enterprise applications for secure data transfer and to maintain data integrity
- Lead the different application development and testing lifecycles (Unit testing, Regression testing, Integration Testing), troubleshooting, and performance optimization of these Enterprise applications and the Corporate Application portfolio.
- Thoroughly document project artifacts including but not limited to requirements, design, build, functional, technical and cutover specifications
- Develop application architecture models and programming standards in compliance with the Enterprise Application Architecture Standards and Industry Best Practices
- Partner with Dow Jones business departments to manage scope and deliverables for the technical side of the Atlassian technical roadmap
- Identify areas of strategic technical debt and provide cost/benefit analysis for eliminating this debt and suggested timelines for how to prioritize it; Experience being on call for bugs or other issues that may arise during a sprint successful.
- Dissect our requirements to translate them into technical requirements as well as identify the places or technologies critical to making the projects efficient and successful.
- Work across teams and products to share best practices and influence technical decisions
- Provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and provide technical guidance.
You Have:
- 5+ years of experience, being responsible for the architecture, scalability, and governance of the Atlassian ecosystem (Jira and Confluence), ensuring it meets our needs across teams and departments.
- Experienced in helping define and maintain the architecture and governance of the Atlassian suite. Direct the offshore managed services team and assign tasks.
- Experienced in leading cross-functional initiatives and technical planning for Atlassian-related projects.
- Experienced in enterprise-wide migrations, upgrades, and tool consolidations.
- Experienced with Jira and Confluence plugins and Atlassian Marketplace applications
- Experience in Linux operating systems (or similar) and RDMS (PostgreSQL)
- Experience developing in Python required and experience in one of the modern languages as noted above.
- Experience using REST APIs for integrations and automation and Configuring webhooks and basic scripting in Python or PowerShell
- Understanding of Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe
- Experience in reporting tools like EazyBI, Atlassian Analytics.
- Proficient in data analysis and extraction and transformation using flat files, APIs, or middleware.
- Experience in AWS technologies and containerization is required
