WHO ARE WE?
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based Startup in the New Space sector, becoming the first satellite telecommunications operator that will provide global and continuous connectivity to all the elements that will make up the massive Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol.
In order to do so, Sateliot is launching a constellation of last generation nanosatellites, located at low altitude that act as mobile towers. Sateliot is the perfect complement for large telecommunications companies by providing them with the necessary infrastructure where terrestrial technologies do not arrive.
YOUR MISSION
Design and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) design for the satellite industry. You will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems for satellite and spacecraft projects, starting for GSE and followed by satellite mechanical subsystems. This is a hands-on role requiring both independent work and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
This is a unique opportunity to be the first mechanical engineer in the company, contributing to the development of mechanical systems key for the manufacturing of satellites and a great development opportunity into the space industry. The ideal candidate will be a versatile, independent problem-solver with a passion for space exploration and technology.
YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONS
Design GSE mechanical jigs and mechanisms to support MAIT activitiesDesigning mechanical jigs and mechanisms for Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to facilitate Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Test (MAIT) activities.
Mechanical design of spacecraft components and systems, ensuring they meet both functional and environmental requirements.
Utilize SolidWorks (or similar CAD tools) to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for spacecraft systems.
Perform mechanical and thermal analysis to assess the behavior of materials and components under space conditions (e.g., vacuum, radiation, thermal extremes).
Select appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques for use in space applications, with a focus on lightweight, durable, and radiation-resistant materials.
Perform or collaborate on thermal, structural, vibration, and environmental testing of components to validate designs.
Work closely with electrical engineers, system engineers, and other disciplines to ensure systems integration and performance.
Develop documentation to ensure proper use and handling of designed GSE and subsystems by the MAIT team
REQUIREMENTS
Educational background in mechanical engineering or equivalent through experience
3+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on spacecraft or satellite industry, or other similar systems operating remotely in extreme environments with low quantities and high quality manufacturing environments.
Proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar CAD software) for mechanical design and modeling.
Proven experience on designing GSE for testing applications, integration jigs or similar
Relevant experience in high quality manufacturing environments
Understanding of spacecraft design requirements, including thermal, vacuum, and radiation effects on materials and systems.
Experience working with typical materials and techniques used in spacecraft design (e.g. aluminum, honeycomb panels, heat pipes/straps etc.).
Ability to work independently and self starter attitude
Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to addressing engineering challenges.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and writing technical reports.
NICE TO HAVE
Hands-on experience with thermal analysis and simulations using tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar software.
Knowledge of space-qualified materials and manufacturing techniques (e.g., high-strength alloys, composites, and advanced coatings).
Proven experience in designing for manufacturing (DFM) and cost-effective production processes.
Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for spacecraft design (e.g., NASA, ESA, ISO, etc.).
Familiarity with system-level integration and testing of spacecraft subsystems.
Experience with the development of small satellite systems.
