IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials.
The Bio/Chemo/Mechanics of Materials research group is looking for a post-doctoral research associate to work on the characterization of the deformation and fracture mechanisms of metallic polycrystals through the application of diffraction contrast tomography (to assess the 3D polycrystal structure) in combination with in situ mechanical tests using electron-backscattered diffraction and high-resolution digital image correlation. The final goal is to establish therelationship between different competing deformation modes (slip, twinning, phase transformations) and fracturemechanisms from 3D information of the microstructure and in situ mechanical tests
Candidates should hold a PhD in Materials Science or Mechanics of Materials (orrelated discipline) and an excellent research record for his/her age and experience. Fluent English (written and oral) is required. Experience in physical metallurgy and in situ characterization of materials will be valued.
Selected candidates will be offered a four months full-time contract with social security coverage as a post-doctoral research associate.
