About BSC

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.

Context And Mission

Among different projects, the Computational Genomics group is currently focused on understanding the genetic causes and the molecular consequences of the metabolism of amino transport in complex diseases.
To strengthen our team, we are opening a position for a Bioinformatician with a strong background in the use of genetic analysis tools and understanding and experience in dealing with biological questions regarding amino acid transport in mammals. The selected candidate will conduct a series of co-localization and association studies around a family of amino acid transporters. Specifically, the role is to identify alternative functions of these proteins by assigning genetic variants and looking for association using GWAS strategies. This work will be conducted as part of an open collaboration with the IRB and UB in Barcelona. This position offers a great opportunity to enter and evolve within the growing field of computational biomedicine and computational biology.
Priority will be given to highly motivated, persistent and proactive candidates with proven experience in the field of genetic analysis and amino acid transport. More information about the group and the activity can be found at: http://cg.bsc.es/cg.

Key Duties

  • Utilizing advanced bioinformatics tools to investigate the expression, regulation, and variation of amino acid transporters.
  • Performing co-localization studies to link transporter gene loci with traits of interest.
  • Identifying and analyzing genetic variants associated with transporter function through GWAS.
  • Interpreting results in the context of mammalian physiology and amino acid metabolism.
  • Collaborating closely with experimental biologists and clinicians to validate hypotheses.

Requirements

  • Education
    • BSc in biological sciences, mathematics, statistics, physics and other related technical fields
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Proven experience in the field of human metabolism and amino acid transporters.

The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:

  • Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position. - 40 points
  • Interview phase: The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated. - 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.

The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women.
