Reporter, Dow Jones Newswires in Barcelona
Dow Jones is seeking a smart, versatile reporter to join its real-time news and analysis team for financial professionals.
Based in Barcelona, reporters monitor press releases, websites and other news sources and fire off headlines and short stories on key developments for publication in real time. They are proficient at identifying important, forward-looking detail from a fast-moving stream of information and turning it into informative, punchy headlines and short articles in English.
In addition to handling market-moving news of all kinds, a major part of the role will center on the intersection of themes that touch markets, economies and investors all over the world. The reporter will write about the driving factors behind moves in stocks and sectors, using real-time pricing data.
Accuracy, speed, excellent news judgment,a close eye for detail, and an ability to write clear, jargon-free copy are essential. Successful candidates must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume news environment where teamwork and communication skills will be hugely important. Reporters need to have the flexibility to jump quickly between subjects and tasks while keeping a calm, clear head.
Excellent written English is essential. A strong grasp of at least one other European language aside from Spanish is highly desirable.
Ideally, candidates will have some knowledge of what to look for in corporate earnings statements and releases, and some familiarity with economic data, financial markets and regulation. They should build relationships with analysts and follow commentators on social media.

This is a hybrid role requiring at least 3 days a week in the office.
You will:
- Monitor European markets, including their subsectors and individual stocks; flash headlines on major moves and write market talks and spot stories to explain why certain stocks, indexes or sectors are moving.
- Monitor a steady flow of corporate and economic news to identify market-moving developments.
- Publish fast, accurate headlines and short-form stories in real time.
- Deliver clear, timely analysis of corporate/market news for a professional investor audience.
- Develop longer-form articles and thematic stories as needed.
- Prioritize and synthesize complex information quickly and clearly.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Dow Jones Newswires, The Wall Street Journal , and international bureaus.
- Serve the needs of Dow Jones’s core audience of financial professionals.
- Uphold Dow Jones editorial standards and ethics.
You have:
- Excellent written English preferably with an additional European Language.
- A sharp eye for detail, accuracy, and editorial judgment.
- Familiarity with financial markets, corporate earnings, economic indicators, or regulation.
- The ability to handle high-volume, deadline-driven work with composure.
- A basic understanding of how a newsroom operates.
