Technician (Peripheral nervous system)

The Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) Group has a twenty-year history providing clinical care and researching in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), other motor neuron diseases (hereditary spastic paraplegias, postpolio syndrome and spinal muscular atrophies), as well as in myasthenia gravis, genetically determined myopathies, and peripheral neuropathies.

The Peripheral Nervous System Group at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital wants to incorporate into its team a graduate technician, with interest in developing a future PhD thesis, for the identification of new biomarkers in ALS and the development of predictive biomarker panels for progression of neuromuscular diseases (ALS, CIDP and myopathies).

Education and qualifications:

Required:

• Vocational training degree. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Health and Life Sciences will also be positively considered
Good Spanish and English skills, both written and spoken (business level)

Desired:

• Authorship of articles in high-impact journals, and conference abstracts, will be highly evaluated
• Interest and expertise to work on the areas of neuroimmunology and neuromuscular diseases

Experience and knowledge:

Required:

• Experience in laboratory procedures related to DNA/RNA purification, molecular biology (ELISA, ELLA, Luminex, Western blot, PCR, RT-PCR) and cellular biology (cytometry)
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word. Excel, Access)
• Ability to teamwork as well as ability to work independently
• Strong sense of responsibility, organization, initiative and self-motivation
The candidate should be competitive to apply for predoctoral fellowships. High motivation

Desired:

• Skills in genetic analysis
• Experience in primary cell cultures of human cells (fibroblast, microglia-like)
• Skills in bioinformatics, Linux and R programming
• Highly organized adaptable and methodical person

• Interest and expertise to work on the areas of neuroimmunology and neuromuscular diseases

Main responsibilities and duties:

• Handling, processing and storage of biological samples and associated data.
• Maintenance of laboratory records (paper and electronic).
• Maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Stock control of consumables and reagents.
• Collaborate with the development of current projects, carrying out the genetic and cellular analyses.
• Provide support in preparation of manuscripts for its publication or draft reports for grants/projects applications.
• Provide support in the presentation of results in meetings and congresses.
• Attend translational meetings of the Neuromuscular Diseases Unit.
