Join us in the Amazon Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team. We maintain and optimize technologies in the Global Amazon Warehouse & Delivery Network.
Purpose of job
Amazon is a global leader seeking a passionate people developer and team builder to shape the future of our Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) organization. As a Building & Mechanical Systems Manager, your primary focus will be nurturing talent, coaching technical specialists, and creating an environment where team members can reach their full potential. While we operate in the context of sustainable building operations and mechanical systems, your success will be measured by your ability to inspire, mentor, and grow a diverse team of specialists. You'll foster a culture of continuous learning, empower your team members in their career development, and build strong collaborative relationships across our global network. The role combines people leadership with technical oversight, emphasizing the human elements that make our reliability maintenance coordination successful.

Key job responsibilities
People Leadership & Development:
  • Build, coach, and empower a high-performing team by creating clear career paths, providing regular feedback, and identifying growth opportunities for each team member
  • Foster an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are valued and team members feel empowered to innovate and contribute
  • Drive a culture of continuous learning and development, implementing mentorship programs and skill-building initiatives
  • Champion regular coaching sessions, career development discussions, and personal growth plans for all team members
  • Lead by example in demonstrating Amazon's Leadership Principles and creating a positive team culture

Team Operations & Excellence:
  • Design and implement people-centric strategies for the global RME BBM control tower, focusing on team empowerment and clear role definition
  • Establish collaborative meeting rhythms that promote knowledge sharing, team bonding, and collective problem-solving
  • Create development paths that align individual strengths with organizational needs
  • Build strong relationships across teams and facilitate cross-functional collaboration opportunities

Performance & Growth:
  • Implement supportive performance management processes that focus on individual growth and team success
  • Develop and nurture talent through regular recognition, constructive feedback, and career advancement opportunities
  • Create metrics that measure both team engagement and operational excellence
  • Guide the team in building effective vendor and stakeholder relationships through strong interpersonal skills

Quality & Process Enhancement:
  • Empower team members to contribute to and improve SOPs through their insights and experiences
  • Support the team in developing and maintaining quality standards while encouraging innovation
  • Enable collaborative decision-making in budget management and resource allocation
  • Foster knowledge sharing and best practice adoption across global RME teams

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or completed Mechanical/HVAC Apprenticeship or equivalent

  • Proven track record of building and developing high-performing technical teams, with strong focus on coaching and mentoring

  • Applied understanding of mechanical systems and building infrastructure, with ability to translate technical knowledge into team development opportunities

  • Demonstrated success in creating inclusive, learning-focused environments with emphasis on career growth and succession planning

  • Excellence in stakeholder management with strong emotional intelligence and communication skills

  • Experience in fostering psychological safety and promoting collaborative problem-solving within teams

  • Track record of implementing effective people development programs while managing operational budgets

  • Adaptable leadership style with proven ability to nurture talent in fast-paced, dynamic environments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related field.

  • Program/Project management of mechanical and building systems.

  • Experience within the industrial refrigeration, HVAC, or building maintenance industry.

  • Proficient in other spoken languages.
