We’re looking for a visionary legal leader to join us as Global Head Data Privacy Legal, where you’ll shape the future of data privacy across the organization. In this role, you’ll oversee legal strategy for data privacy, and artificial intelligence—ensuring monitoring legal developments and supporting compliance with global regulations like GDPR and CCPA, while guiding the development of robust internal policies and frameworks. About the Role
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the global legal support advisory team for data privacy and AI, providing direction, mentorship, and development opportunities. Ensure a close working relationship with the Data Privacy, Digital & AI Function in ERC and general Legal.
- Policy Development: Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of data privacy and AI policies, procedures and templates to protect personal data and ensure compliance.
- Legal Guidance: Provide and organize expert legal advice and guidance on data privacy and AI issues to internal stakeholders, including Data Privacy, Digital & AI Function, senior management, IT, and P&O. Manage outside counsel for advice on data privacy and AI legal issues as needed. Provide and organize expert legal advice and guidance in the context of litigation and data subject requests.
- Risk Management: Support the identification and mitigation of data privacy risks and legal risks of AI conducting regular assessments.
- Training and Awareness: Support the development and delivery of training programs to educate employees on data privacy and AI best practices and legal requirements.
- Incident Response: Lead the legal assessment of and response data privacy incidents breaches and AI-related incidents, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Shaping external environment: In coordination with the Data Privacy, Digital & AI Function and Novartis Public Affairs, interact with regulators worldwide, work to influence policy/legislation, including within trade associations, and update senior management on data privacy and AI legal developments.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including ERC, IT, security and the business to ensure a holistic approach to data privacy and AI.
- Reporting: Prepare and present reports on data privacy and AI compliance and incidents to senior management and support interactions with regulatory authorities.
Essential Requirements:
- University degree in law, admission to the bar preferred
- Substantial working experience (10+) in data privacy law and AI-related legal matters / ethics in a multi-disciplinary and international setting and with a strong background in global data privacy, security regulations and AI
- Several years of experience in leading a team of lawyers
- Experience in a multinational company, ideally in the healthcare sector
- Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills paired with the ability to manage complex legal issues and provide clear, actionable advice
- Relevant certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, or certifications related to AI ethics and compliance (e.g. AIGP)
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
