Joining Moderna offers the unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering team that's revolutionizing medicine through mRNA technology, with a diverse pipeline of development programs across various diseases. As an employee, you'll be part of a continually growing organization, working alongside exceptional colleagues and strategic partners worldwide, contributing to global health initiatives. Moderna's commitment to advancing the technological frontier of mRNA medicines ensures a challenging and rewarding career experience, with the potential to make a significant impact on patients' lives worldwide. Moderna is solidifying its footprint within our international centre for analytical excellence in Madrid, a city known for its rich scientific heritage. This facility, the largest such center outside the United States, exemplifies our commitment to solidifying our manufacturing network and advancing our promising mRNA product portfolio. We're looking for talents who can contribute to our innovative research and development efforts.

As Manager, Logistics Engineering, you will play a critical role in deploying and optimizing Moderna’s global cold chain and distribution capabilities. You will lead efforts to ensure compliance with Good Distribution Practices (GDP) and regulatory guidelines, while also contributing to the development of innovative logistics strategies across pre-clinical, clinical, and commercial product lines. You will champion global shipping validation systems, ensure best-in-class shipping methods, and serve as a subject matter expert for cold chain practices across the Moderna organization. With a strong focus on real-time visibility, IoT analytics, and digital innovation, this role is an opportunity to sit at the interface of cutting-edge logistics and Moderna’s broader digital transformation

Here’s What You’ll Do

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Deploy, maintain, and oversee the implementation of Moderna’s International Logistics Engineering strategy, cold chain requirements, and cross-functional milestones.

  • Serve as the global owner for shipping systems and methods, participating actively in the Shipping Validation Team.

  • Lead and support logistics engineering visibility projects including real-time temperature tracking, digital twins, and analytics-enabled systems.

  • Author and maintain GMP-compliant documentation including SOPs, Work Instructions, and distribution policies.

  • Deliver expert advice across Moderna’s global teams on cold chain handling, storage, and transportation in accordance with evolving regulations and best practices.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Support and liaise with Manufacturing, Logistics, and Quality teams to implement and qualify new shipping systems across Moderna’s international operations.

  • Oversee distribution and cold chain technology transfers at CMO and 3PL partner sites.

  • Provide targeted training and guidance on cold chain best practices and regulatory expectations.

  • Develop and monitor KPIs/metrics and compliance measures, reporting regularly to senior management.

  • Act as SME during GMP/GDP audits and regulatory inspections, and lead internal investigations and CAPAs related to cold chain non-conformities.

  • Collaborate with External Quality to qualify vendors, carriers, and freight forwarders through SOPs, Quality Agreements, and Statements of Work.

  • Remain up to date with industry trends and regulatory shifts, ensuring Moderna’s logistics engineering framework is future-ready and compliant.

  • Contribute additional value to the organization through technical insights, collaboration, and innovation-driven project work.

The key Moderna Mindsets you’ll need to succeed in the role:

  • “We digitize everywhere possible using the power of code to maximize our impact on patients.”
This role sits at the intersection of biotech logistics and digital innovation. Your ability to leverage IoT, analytics platforms, and digital twins will be essential in transforming how we deliver medicines safely and efficiently across the globe.

  • “We behave like owners. The solutions we’re building go beyond any job description.”
You will be entrusted with driving strategic improvements in cold chain visibility and performance. Success requires a proactive mindset and a strong sense of ownership to deliver outcomes that scale with Moderna’s ambitions.

Here’s What You’ll Need ( Basic Qualifications)

  • Education: University degree in technology, engineering, or related field.

  • Experience: 6-8 years (BA/BS) or 3-5 years (MS) in various Cold Chain, Supply Chain, Manufacturing & Science, and Logistics functions (strong preference towards Pharmaceutical and Biotech experience. Experience working in a cGMP environment).

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • APICS CSCP or CLTD certified preferred.

  • Experience and proficient knowledge of project management, risk management methodologies and monitoring techniques.

  • Experience with IoT devices, digital twins, AI tools and their application
