ARQUIMEA, we are a technology company operating globally and providing innovate solutions and products in highly demanding sectors.
Our areas of activity are Aerospace, Defense & Security, Big Science, Biotechnology and Fintech.
At ARQUIMEA Research Center (ARC), part of ARQUIMEA , we push the boundaries of sensing and vision systems. Our multidisciplinary research team specializes in cutting-edge solutions for robotics, defense, aerospace, and industrial monitoring applications.
We are currently seeking a passionate and skilled Optical Engineer to join a high-impact team focused on developing a next-generation long-range observation system.
The scope of this position would be to design and integrate a precision optical systems which might include some of the following characteristics:
- High-performance variable magnification while maintaining focus.
- Environment compensation.
- Beam-splitting systems to enable simultaneous sensing across different channels simultanously
The systems will be deployed in complex real-world environments and must meet demanding performance, environmental, and reliability requirements.
Main Responsibilities:
- Drive requirement definition, design, simulation, and optimization of complex optical systems for computer vision devices.
- Develop robust Monte Carlo optical models to analyze system performance under real-world tolerances, misalignments, and manufacturing variations.
- Perform stray light analysis and suppression strategies to ensure high image contrast and system reliability in outdoor or high-glare environments.
- Analyse and contribute to optomechanical assemblies that maintain alignment and performance across thermal gradients, vibrations, and structural loads.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electronic, control, and computer vision engineers to co-develop system architecture and integration.
- Conduct optical tolerancing and contribute to thermal and structural FEA for integrated design decisions.
- Participate in component selection, supplier engagement, and assembly procedures for custom optical systems.
- Understand and manage uncertainty: picking the right tools to perform analyses and create models, in order to define appropriate requirements.
- Read and understand relevant research papers
- Author clear and comprehensive documentation.
- Participate in agile planning meetings and contribute to the agile-based work management tools.
Required skills, experience and candidate profile:
- BS, MSc or PhD in Optical Engineering, Physics, Optomechanical Engineering, or industry experience equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in optical or optomechanical system design.
- Proven track record with long-range optical systems, zoom optics, or beam-splitting architectures is desirable.
- Proficiency with optical simulation tools such as Zemax/OpticStudio, TracePro.
- Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, thermal expansion, and structural stability in optical assemblies.
- Familiarity with SWIR/MWIR/LWIR sensors and spectral system design.Hands-on prototyping or testing in environmental chambers.
Additionally, we will also value experience in the following areas:
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- You must enjoy working in a research-oriented environment.
- Data-driven, analytical mindset. Open to challenges.
- Excellent written, verbal and communication skills focused on teamwork and collaboration
- Proficient in English, both oral and written. Spanish is a plus.
- We are also looking for a good person, someone who thrives working in multidisciplinary and ever-changing environments. The candidate must be eligible to work in the EU.
