About the job
Based at the San Clemente Palace within the Sales & Marketing Department in Venice, the Director of Sales is responsible for leading the commercial sales strategy of the hotel, driving revenue through proactive business development, key account management, and market segmentation. This role ensures optimal positioning of the property within the luxury segment and oversees the team’s execution of the sales plan to meet or exceed revenue targets. Reporting directly to the Director of Commercial Strategy, the Director of Sales collaborates closely with Marketing, Revenue, Events, and Operations to align efforts, deliver exceptional client experiences, and maximize business potential.
As Director of Sales, you will responsible for the following duties:
- Define and execute the hotel's sales strategy in line with commercial goals and brand positioning.
- Lead and manage the Sales team, ensuring goals, targets, and KPIs are clearly set, tracked, and achieved.
- Develop strong relationships with key clients, corporate partners, and MICE accounts to ensure long-term business opportunities.
- Identify new business opportunities within target markets (Corporate, Leisure, MICE) and oversee the conversion process.
- Collaborate with the Revenue and Marketing teams to create competitive offers and integrated campaigns.
- Represent the hotel at international trade shows, sales trips, roadshows, and networking events, promoting the property and the Mandarin Oriental brand.
- Work closely with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group Global Sales Offices to maximize cross-selling and brand synergies.
- Ensure all sales activities are properly recorded in the CRM system (e.g., Delphi) and maintain accurate and up-to-date reporting and pipeline data.
- Monitor market trends, competitor performance, and client feedback, adapting strategies to maintain a competitive edge.
- Support the coordination of VIP site inspections, familiarization trips, and key client visits.
- Prepare and present weekly and monthly sales reports, forecasts, and performance analysis to senior leadership.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence within the Sales & Marketing team.
- Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the Director of Commercial Strategy.
As Director of Sales we expect from you:
- Minimum 5–7 years of sales leadership experience in the luxury hospitality sector, preferably within international brands.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a sales team, with a hands-on approach and strategic mindset.
- Strong business development, negotiation, and key account management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities in English and Italian; additional languages are highly valued.
- Deep understanding of MICE, Corporate, and Leisure segments, especially within the luxury and lifestyle market.
- Familiarity with hotel systems including Delphi, Opera, Microsoft Office, and CRM tools.
- High level of financial and analytical acumen, with the ability to build forecasts and interpret data.
- Ability to travel as required to represent the hotel and Mandarin Oriental in key markets.
- Degree in Hospitality, Business Administration, Marketing, or related fields strongly preferred.
