About the role:
Join a unique and dynamic team in our Engineering Services Dept. Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC) is seeking a passionate and experienced Technical Officer to support the sustainable development and operational management of essential infrastructure services primarily water and wastewater systems.
This hands on role delivers trade level expertise and operational leadership, fostering capacity building and promoting efficient maintenance practices. The Tech Officer will also ensure regulatory compliance and drive continual improvement across our infrastructure assets.
What We're Looking For
We need someone who shares our values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Resilience. The ideal candidate will have:
- Certificate III (minimum) in a building trade discipline such as plumbing, electrical, or mechanical with additional qualifications in water operations highly desirable.
- Proven experience in maintaining, repairing and operating water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHS requirements including confined space entry, risk assessments and emergency procedures.
- Ability to use digital maintenance systems for recording work and performance metrics.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to guide and mentor junior staff.
- Ability to problem solve and adapt practices to remote, culturally diverse environments.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team with a high level of accountability.
- Possession of a current Construction Industry General Induction Card (White or Blue Card) and a valid Queensland "C" Class Driver's Licence.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting Torres Strait Islander people together with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively.
Frequent travel throughout the Torres Strait Islands and Cairns is a requirement of this position.
